Victoria Beckham defends skinny models

Following her fourth and very successful collection at New York Fashion Week,
Victoria Beckham has weighed in on the size debate.
Her position? Defending skinny models.

“Most of these girls are naturally thin,”says Victoria, who is often criticised about her own weight.

“And I don’t think we should be discriminating against

someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too

large or whatever it is.”

Speaking to US TV show The View, Victoria added,“the campaign the CFDA

has launched is called ‘Health is Beauty’and they are definitely

encouraging designers to work with healthier sized models.

Perhaps it will encourage Ms.Beckham to eat something.

A-listers are paid to sit front row: rates revealed

With Fashion Week around the corner our attention,as always, turns to who we’re likely spot sitting suitably stylish in the coveted front row seats. But whilst most fashion fans would give their right leg to bag a spot, these A-listers are getting paid. You see, publicity and copious freebies aren’t enough for the fashion elite – they charge big bucks to appear front row at designers’ shows. And just how much they charge depends on their status and fashion credibility. to make an appearance.
Hitting the top of the list is Rihanna, who charges an almighty $100,000 just for turning up, closely followed by the trendy Olsen twins who can pocket $80,000 each.
Someone on the down-right embarrassing end of the scale, however, is Lindsay Lohan who – since her controversial last year in fashion – has gone from getting $60,000 to being altogether uninvited. Ouch.

SJP on set in Brian Atwood!

We love a bit of Sex and the City fashion news.First we saw the girls on set in their 80s gear - which was funny, if a little bit scary - and now we get to see Carrie tottering around in a pair of Brian Atwood Loca shoes from his Resort 2010 collection
The ex-model began designing footwear for Versace in 1996 before branching out and starting his own brand in 2001.
These shoes have caused quite a stir since being spotted on Sarah Jessica Parker and rightly so.The round toe platform pumps are made from pastel blue suede and gold studs, while the sides are lucite.Teamed here with her Chanel tote and laid-back attire, Carrie’s ensemble looks effortlessly chic. We credit the shoes !

Claudia Schiffer to design?

Yet another model turning to design? As Claudia Schiffer celebrates her 21st year as a supermodel, she’s hinted she may be ready to dabble in design.

One of the fashion’s favourite supers, Claudia Schiffer, admitting she still wants to “continue in this role [modelling] as long as possible”, has decided she’s ready to create a collection under her own name.“I’ve been in this business for so long and developed my name globally, but I have no product to show for it. And I would love to develop it now,” said Claudia

AW 09 Trends: Velvet

Modernist designers such as Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein and Christopher Kane revitalised the fabric with glossy colour, clever splicing, and by reviving the age-old dévoré treatment, whereby acid is poured onto areas of cloth creating a sheer, pretty burnt out pattern to create strong stripes and graphics. The most arresting looks came courtesy of Christopher Kane, who presented a series of organza shifts appliqued with jewel-coloured velvet ribbons, set in horizontal and vertical stripes. Kane partnered them with bare legs and brogues – consider that your styling cue.

AW09 Trends: Tweed

Yes, it’s time to think tweedy,
for this season the British country classic gets a slick urban update; tweed has become sexy, smart and tailored. Oh, and practical too. From Vivienne Westwood to Burberry Prorsum, and Gucci to Karl Lagerfeld.
It comes speckled, checked and textured this autumn.
The look is such a refreshing change from the high-octane glitz and glamour dominating this season’s runways.

Body Con

As we are all by now well aware, the eighties made a colossal comeback on the catwalks for spring/summer 09. But it is one microtrend in particular that captured the hearts of the fashion flock and A-listers alike. Yes, you guessed it: Body con. Short for “body conscious”, this refers to clothing that does exactly what it says on the tin: anything from skintight mini-dresses and mini-skirts, to tight high-waisted leggings and trousers and basically any other garment that makes you, as the name suggests, very conscious of your body - conscious in the sense that you may have missed those body pump gym classes and well now can’t quite eat lunch without busting a seam.

There are shorts out there to suit everyone

Love them or hate them, shorts show no sign of going away and while they send the fear of dread into lots of women, there is a style to suit all shapes and sizes.

If you have never-ending pins, you can pull off most looks but try to make the most of your assets by purchasing some denim hotpants, in the style of Kate Moss. However, beware of wearing them with high heels - flat gladiator sandals look best - and always cover up your chest to avoid flashing too much skin.

Summer 09 Trend: Jumpsuits

Conveninent (step in, zip up, and go!) and inconvenient (best to have a friend for trips to the bathroom) in equal parts, the jumpsuit is back on our fashion radar. Yes, while we once thought that it took a strongly fashion-forward woman to wear a jumpsuit, it’s now clear that it just takes a smart one.Jumpsuits have long been lurking on catwalks and in stores and show no signs of fading away. From the fashion houses of Prada to Phillip Lim and Derek Lam to Dolce & Gabbana, the international runways were awash with this simple solution to fashion dressing. Various incarnations in the Spring/Summer ’09 collections ranged from shimmering evening silk to super-tight body con, and to utility cotton. Jumpsuits are now here to stay in full-length glory, and their shorter cousin, the playsuit, is also an ubiquitous trend.

Cannes: Another day of gorgeous gowns

So Angelina and Brad have finally arrived, and Angelina was dressed to impress. I think she’s now put those pregnancy rumours to bed as she appeared in a thigh high split dress which was both figure hugging and flattering.

The delectable duo were out in Cannes for the screening of Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’, Angelina’s Versace gown is truly magnificent. From the floor skimming length, to the nude colour and one-shoulder, this dress is so on trend it hurts. And she looks incredible, we had begun to wonder whether Jolie had been lost to the realms of mum dressing, but no she is back on her best form. Stunning!

Moss,The Muse

Kate Moss has the golden touch. She can pull off anything you put on her. But the question is pull what off? Either she’s got a really nasty headache or she just got out of shower look in that turban. The only thing that’s getting a thumbs up are those rocking gold pumps. My, I won’t even last five minutes walking in those but that’s something Kate is very good at.Kate is wearing a Marc Jacobs dress at the Costume Institute Gala

Summer Shoes

I'm a big fan of colorful footwear, but even I'm excited about this season's light neutrals. Beiges, creams, taupes and tans are great for pairing with brights and whites, making them ideal for warm weather.

Lady Gaga and her amazing “Post-It”dress

By now you must have surely seen Lady Gaga’s appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. The Gaga one joined Ross, tea cup in hand, wearing couture by none other than one of my favourite designers Ashley Isham. Yes, ladies it was Isham that created this flattering vinyl toga “Post-It” dress. The showpiece hails from his 2008 Barberella-inspired collection and naturally we had to get Isham’s thoughts on Gaga in his creation. Here’s what he had to say:

“She rocked in that dress! She carried it with an air of cool confidence and looked so comfortable in it that you forget it’s a showpiece! It didn’t look at all out of place – even at a talk show!”

Drew Barrymore finally finds a look that suits her

To me,Drew Barrymore seems like the sort of woman who just always looks like a little girl playing dress up with her mum's cosmetics and jewellery. She never seems to sport looks that really fit her body and personality, with the blue confection of a dress and the tranny bouffant on the red carpet recently drive that point home.
What must make it difficult is that she doesn't sit at either end of the conventionally attractive spectrum: she's not a blonde Marilyn bombshell and she's not a girl next door (although I'm sure thousands of you will disagree with me on that point). To date, I have never seen her in anything I really like... until now. It looks like somebody finally figured out her attractiveness.

It's 1920s glamour,a look I never would previously associated with Barrymore. It's the most flattering and natural thing I've seen her in. She should do a lot more period dressing from this era... Seeing her in pics at this premier she looks very Daisy as played by Mia Farrow (not in personality). She rocks the Gatsby-era garb and make up.

Vogue is bursting with fabulous faces

It feels like ages since I saw a Vogue cover with a model on the front, or any magazine for that matter. But May’s issue of Vogue has not one but nine models of the moment. There is: Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini and Natasha Poly. They all have that delicate glow of an airbrush, but there’s no denying their beauty, I really doubt photoshopping was actually necessary. The cover has the strapline: “The Man Who Made Them Stars” which refers to a major shoot and article with photographer Steven Meisel. But as Jezebel so rightly pointed out, he had very little to do, and in some cases at all, with the nine cover stars’ rise to model fame.

The article titled ‘The Godfather’ is an interesting take on Meisel’s career shooting lots and lots of lovely women. Madonna commented there’s “a great sense of mystery [about him], you get sucked into his aura. He knows things.” Well one thing is certain, he knows how to shoot women and make them look their very best.

It looks like it’s going to be a very interesting issue, jam-packed full of all the top models including Naomi and Agyness.

Pixie poses in PPQ

Pixie Geldof does love her fashion, so we weren’t really that surprised to see she had three costume changes when she went to the PPQ Jackdaw store opening last week in Mayfair.Starting off fairly normal in blue skinny jeans, vintage leather jacket and a rather quirky straw trilby, Pixie then changed into that gorgeous PPQ patchwork dress! It’s beautiful dress, not sure why she decided to keep her jeans on though! She then headed out to Bungalow 8 with her sister Peaches Geldof, where she later changed into that infamous PPQ orange and black striped maxi dress. I say infamous because it’s from PPQ"s and when I first saw them, they reminded me of Halloween inspired pyjamas. It still does I’m afraid, it looks better teamed with her leather jacket but still not a great look.

How do you rate Pixie’s style? Is she a leader or a try-hard?
