Lady Gaga and her amazing “Post-It”dress

By now you must have surely seen Lady Gaga’s appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. The Gaga one joined Ross, tea cup in hand, wearing couture by none other than one of my favourite designers Ashley Isham. Yes, ladies it was Isham that created this flattering vinyl toga “Post-It” dress. The showpiece hails from his 2008 Barberella-inspired collection and naturally we had to get Isham’s thoughts on Gaga in his creation. Here’s what he had to say:

“She rocked in that dress! She carried it with an air of cool confidence and looked so comfortable in it that you forget it’s a showpiece! It didn’t look at all out of place – even at a talk show!”

Drew Barrymore finally finds a look that suits her

To me,Drew Barrymore seems like the sort of woman who just always looks like a little girl playing dress up with her mum's cosmetics and jewellery. She never seems to sport looks that really fit her body and personality, with the blue confection of a dress and the tranny bouffant on the red carpet recently drive that point home.
What must make it difficult is that she doesn't sit at either end of the conventionally attractive spectrum: she's not a blonde Marilyn bombshell and she's not a girl next door (although I'm sure thousands of you will disagree with me on that point). To date, I have never seen her in anything I really like... until now. It looks like somebody finally figured out her attractiveness.

It's 1920s glamour,a look I never would previously associated with Barrymore. It's the most flattering and natural thing I've seen her in. She should do a lot more period dressing from this era... Seeing her in pics at this premier she looks very Daisy as played by Mia Farrow (not in personality). She rocks the Gatsby-era garb and make up.

Vogue is bursting with fabulous faces

It feels like ages since I saw a Vogue cover with a model on the front, or any magazine for that matter. But May’s issue of Vogue has not one but nine models of the moment. There is: Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini and Natasha Poly. They all have that delicate glow of an airbrush, but there’s no denying their beauty, I really doubt photoshopping was actually necessary. The cover has the strapline: “The Man Who Made Them Stars” which refers to a major shoot and article with photographer Steven Meisel. But as Jezebel so rightly pointed out, he had very little to do, and in some cases at all, with the nine cover stars’ rise to model fame.

The article titled ‘The Godfather’ is an interesting take on Meisel’s career shooting lots and lots of lovely women. Madonna commented there’s “a great sense of mystery [about him], you get sucked into his aura. He knows things.” Well one thing is certain, he knows how to shoot women and make them look their very best.

It looks like it’s going to be a very interesting issue, jam-packed full of all the top models including Naomi and Agyness.

Pixie poses in PPQ

Pixie Geldof does love her fashion, so we weren’t really that surprised to see she had three costume changes when she went to the PPQ Jackdaw store opening last week in Mayfair.Starting off fairly normal in blue skinny jeans, vintage leather jacket and a rather quirky straw trilby, Pixie then changed into that gorgeous PPQ patchwork dress! It’s beautiful dress, not sure why she decided to keep her jeans on though! She then headed out to Bungalow 8 with her sister Peaches Geldof, where she later changed into that infamous PPQ orange and black striped maxi dress. I say infamous because it’s from PPQ"s and when I first saw them, they reminded me of Halloween inspired pyjamas. It still does I’m afraid, it looks better teamed with her leather jacket but still not a great look.

How do you rate Pixie’s style? Is she a leader or a try-hard?

Sharp shoulders by Victoria Beckham

Shoulders are huge both in size and status. They are the must have silhouette for Spring/Summer 09 and will continue right through into Autumn/Winter. And you can always rely on Victoria Beckham to dabble in the trends before anyone else.

And her she is in all her Balmain Spring/Summer 09 glory. As a colleague commented it’s like Audrey Hepburn joined the Hell’s Angels, but I kind of like it.The jeans are without doubt amazing, and the jacket is very Adam and the Ants but it really works. This high fashion look was all in aid of some well deserved shopping in Milan. And possibly to celebrate her new status as a voiceover artist. If you didn’t hear she’s done a voice for the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants in which she plays a Princess. We’ve also heard that she may be making a bit of a career out of voiceovers so watch this space.Back to the clothes, I do love the whole ensemble, but I would love to see a bag on her arm that isn’t a Hermes Birkin. How do you feel about the exaggerated shoulders? Is it a trend you’re feeling or fearing?

Love your style: Heidi Klum

The Project Runway presenter, supermodel and supermum Heidi Klum was not always known for her style but these days the Victoria’s Secret stunner is hard to ignore. It all started with that sensational red John Galliano gown she wore at the Oscars two years ago. Now a regular fixture on the red carpet, Heidi seldom puts a (Louboutin clad) foot wrong. Heidi-hi loves a LBD. I love this leather-corseted dominatrix style and her accessories but would have preferred them teamed with tougher heels. Still, as always, she manages to pull it off. Some girls have all the luck.Wait, isn’t that Katherine Heigl? Nope, it’s just our Heidi, dressed in figure-hugging Roland Mouret with screen siren hair and make-up. Mad Men’s femme fatales have got nothing on Klum!

Is Anne the new Posh?

Oh fashion is a fickle world. One minute a designer is declaring his undying admiration for you and the next he’s moved onto the next ‘new hot thing’.Well this is the tale of woe for Victoria Beckham. It wasn’t that long ago that Vicky and Marc Jacobs were BFFs, all hugging and strutting and of course climbing out of paper bags. But now rumours are rife that Anne Hathaway is the new Marc Jacobs muse. Jacobs has been dressing the actress for a number of high profile events. There hasn’t been any contract signing for an ad campaign, but as always in fashion, if there’s smoke then there’s definitely an inferno burning somewhere. Who would you rather see, Hathaway or Beckham?

Retro Sunglasses: Eye love this season

Unlike clothing and hair trends that change from season to season, sunglasses styles seldom undergo any major seasonal changes. I mean look at the Aviators that are still seen on tonnes of celebs from LA to London (The Olsens, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller to name but a few). But that doesn’t mean you can get away with just any old style this summer season. Selecting the right pair of retro-style sunglasses is crucial. Thick, plastic frames harking back to the 1970s are making it big this season, taking over from the ever-popular 1980s style of 2007. This doesn’t mean that the acid brights of the 1980s aren’t in trend anymore, because they are! Confused? Choose a pair of thick framed bright coloured sunglasses and you’re sure to be bang on trend.

How to wear summer florals

It seems to be the trend that never dies and this summer is no exception; they were all over last season’s catwalks and now the high-street has once again been transformed into a multicoloured meadow of floral prints
Gone are last season’s cute ditzy prints though, replaced with bold statement florals not just adorning dresses and skirts but feminising tailored blazers and adding statement status to shoes and clutches. Not always an easy trend to pull off, MFL has a few tips on how to be fabulous rather than frumpy in florals.
1.
Toughen up girlie flower prints with leather accessories, a waist belt and some killer heels to ensure it doesn’t look like you’ve escaped from the set of Little House on the Prairie.
2.
This isn’t a trend that has to cost you an arm and a leg, Topshops collection of mini dresses and jackets in quirky floral prints would look at home on any catwalk.
3.
Charity shops are also full of hidden floral treasures which with a little tweaking can become unique statement pieces. Look out for rogue Laura Ashley prints.
